Surface: Call for Entries

CALL FOR ENTRIES
ISGB invites its members to create a bead that answers one of two questions: What lies beneath? When is it actually what is on the outside that counts?
For centuries, beadmakers have been answering these questions, consciously or not, with every design decision they have made. Some artisans have melted glass in layers to create visible depth. An artist may choose to encase a bit of metal, or perhaps some strategically placed reactive glass. Other artists prefer to decorate the exterior of their bead with enamels or complex stringer work. What happens when you add glass to the face of the bead? Six big dots might give a bead a whimsical feel, whereas sixty little dots might impart a sense of decadence. What happens when you take glass away? Maybe your jar of etching cream and your sandblaster got together to give your once 'plain-Jane' bead a total makeover. Maybe you took a trip to
Whatever your pleasure, we think there’s something in this for everyone.
