Bead Inspired - The Art of Courage
Bead Inspired - The Art of Courage
The Arizona Society of Glass Beadmakers has had the honor and privilege of working with the Beads of Courage program almost from its inception. We are thrilled to be the first bead group in the nation to partner with this great cause. And now we have something really exciting to announce….Bead Inspired comes to Mesa Arts Center! This is sure to be a great day, with lots of fun and entertainment for the whole family! We hope you will join us.
Bead Inspired is, at its heart, a fundraising event for Beads of Courage, and as such has some specific goals in mind:
- Bring awareness to the general public about the mission of Beads of Courage, Inc. (a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization)
- Provide for an inspirational community event that inspires others, and honors the members of Beads of Courage (the children and family we support)
- Raise funds necessary to provide Beads of Courage, Inc. programs for children coping with serious illness, their families and the health care providers who care for them; and support ongoing program development.
- Promote the art of glass bead making and bring recognition to the many talented bead artists in the host community.
- Provide education on the significance of beads to humans and the role of beads for honor, healing, and acknowledgement for children coping with serious illness.
But it’s also so much more! We’ve been working hard to make this a really great day of fun, entertainment, and of course glass beads too.
So what’s in store? Check out some of the action:
- Flaming Hot Torches - The main attraction of a Bead Inspired event is the opportunity to watch talented bead artists melting glass at torches as they make one-of-a-kind beads for children in the Beads of Courage Program.
- Create - a unique beaded bracelet with on-site design help, with all proceeds going to Beads of Courage
- Shop - the Bead Inspired Gift Shop has one-of-a-kind gifts for sale. All pieces were generously donated by glass bead artists to help raise money.
- Sponsor - a bead for a child coping with a serious illness. It’s one small way to make a big difference. You can also sponsor one of the beadmaking teams, or live large and be an event sponsor!
- Art from the Heart Reception- Bead Inspired concludes with a reception and live auction of one-of-a-kind artisan beads and artwork. The evening will be dedicated to honoring the children who receive Beads of Courage Programs, contributing bead artists, and supporting clinicians. The Bead Inspired Reception will include entertainment and a dynamic live auction featuring one-of-a-kind art items. Tickets are available online at the Beads of Courage website.
- Live Entertainment – Music with Sarah Styles and the Brotherhood of Blues, Native American dancing and music, the Phoenix Coyote’s mascot Howling Coyote, and more……
- Raffles - will be done throughout the day, with lots of great prizes!
We want to make this a big success, and you can help, even if you can’t attend.

Since its inception in 2005, Beads of Courage has worked to improve the quality of life for children coping with cancer and other serious illness through its innovative arts-in-medicine programs. The treatment journey for a child coping with a life threatening illness is very challenging, involving many painful and uncomfortable procedures. Through all Beads of Courage Programs, children receive handmade beads, donated by artists, as symbols of honor and acknowledgement of their treatment milestones. Developed by a pediatric oncology nurse, the Beads of Courage Program serves over 60 children’s hospitals nationwide, as well as international programs in Japan and New Zealand. Please help us to bring this wonderful, healing program to children in need. Attend, participate, donate, sponsor…..we would be most grateful.
If your local ISGB chapter is interested in hosting a Bead Inspired Event to benefit Beads of Courage please contact Jennifer Gribbon.
