Bead&Button Show would like you to know about a new Master Class which will be offered at the Bead&Button Show in Milwaukee in June of 2010.

NEW for the 2010 Bead&Button Show, as part of Bead&Button Show's 10 year anniversary celebration, will be a lampworking master class! Join master flameworker Andrea Guarino-Slemmons for three amazing days of lampworking bliss and mentoring.


Artistic Glass Beads and Textured Silver Bead Caps

This master's class will be about manipulating and artistically changing the appearance of Effetre/Moretti glass and embellishing art glass beads with silver cores and textured silver bead caps. This will include working both on and off mandrel.

This Master's Class will include:

  • Applying metals such as silver leaf and foil to the bead.
     
  • Learning the technique of fine silver fuming.
     
  • Working with reactive silver glass using special techniques to achieve dramatic colors.
     
  • Using glass powders to create new and unique surface colors.
     
  • Making tightly wound, uniform diameter twisted canes and applying them to beads.
     
  • Applying fine silver mesh.
     
  • Working with dichroic glass.
     
  • Working on 3/32, 3/16 and 1/4 inch mandrels.
     
  • Creating beautiful textures on silver sheet and fabricate silver to form bead caps.
     
  • Instruction in the use of special tooling to punch the center hole, aligning it perfectly each time.
     
  • Riveting your bead caps onto your beads using silver tubing.

    Who Should Take This Class?
    This workshop is only for the advanced lampworker. Beginners should not apply for this course.

    Class Fee:
    $1,050 plus an additional $100 kit fee. Andrea has assembled a very generous and inclusive kit for this workshop.

    Admission will be by lottery, which will take place on January 6. Applications must be postmarked or faxed by January 4.
