Advice Please

My "studio"(must use that word lightly in my case) is upstairs in my unfinished area. I have a BBQ size tank of MAPP gas. My husband,firefighter, doesn't want it in the house. What exactly, am I supposed to do with it while I'm working? I don't mind disconnecting it and taking it outside when I'm done but what the heck should I do if it can't come upstairs at all? This is the only area that I can use and it is perfect except this gas issue. (AM I forgetting that without the gas there would be not beads? ) Hopefully you guys have some wonderful ideas like usual!

Can you have it outside and run a line into the house???

Your husband is correct!....

If its not possible to place tank outside at ground level and run line up the wall to the studio, I suggest you find a different location for studio, maybe in garage or basement. The is still "gas pooling" issues with propane/mapp gas and basement studio!

Why oh why did lampworking have to choose me???!!! Yes, it chose me because all it took was on look at beads and I had to do it.

Maybe if I just do it on the sly when he's asleep?
I really don't have anywhere else to do it unless it's in my back yard. I think I need a miracle.

your husband is correct. Don't bring it inside. Find a way to have the tank outside while you work inside. Not only is it just factually dangerous, it is illegal in most jurisdictions, as your husband probably knows.

There was a post, I think on the old forum, about one bead maker that had a faulty valve or connection, I forget which, on a bulk tank. You can probably find it with a search.

Anyway, it was a minor miracle that this bead maker avoided disaster as she had quite a lot of gas released into her home. It could have turned out otherwise and we might have read about her adventure in the newspapers and obituary column.

Do you have an upstairs balcony or porch? You could set the tank out there and just run the hose out the window. Just use a quick release to unhook the hose. A friend of mine has a really long hose (I think it's like 300 ft. of hose) that goes up to her studio from ground level in a similar fashion. CBS

Yep Vince, this unfortunate beadmaker was me. I just posted all about what happened to me on Llavalle's thread on gas safety. Josie - it's not worth the risk - don't do it!
