Using the clear OR white WILL affect your end color that you overlay. Play with different beads, and you will see how indeed, it does.

The hassle of then later coating the base bead, gets when you have to go the the near mandrel area's. It's a little tedious to coat there and retain or rebuild a nice 'pucker' and not let a opal color bleed out. For this reason, I think a clear is better unless you are looking for the colored back to affect the canvas.

It remains personal preferences, but it is still a way to be more frugal with the more expensive colors or one you have little of and need to stretch it out.

I'm not sure about using this trick with BE as well, since I use it for fusing all the time, but not as much for beadmaking, but with Moretti, many of the expensive colors like Rubino (especially) can be thoroughly mixed with clear or white to "expand their volume," without losing much of the intensity or quality of the original color. A little Rubino can go a long long way this way, and you don't have to worry about covering up the ends then...

Obviously, the opaque pinks wouldn't act in quite the same way, but mixing them with a bit of clear might be an interesting experiment to try. Or white--you'd usually just end up with a paler shade. I've mixed EDP #254 with all kinds of other colors and gotten all sorts of interesting variations which end up being "cheaper," but still retain the uniquely special qualities of EDP!
