Default Effetre Streaky Pink for sale

    Hi there, all.

I don't get out much because of my two jobs but I have finally figured out that the Effetre odd batch of pink known as "Streaky Pink" is in high demand and short supply. I have three pounds of it that I'm not using and would like to change into cash so I can buy some things I DO need. I understand that folks are bidding up to $40 per 1/4lb on Ebay, with the average closing price being about $35 per 1/4lb. I'd like to try to sell mine for $30 per 1/4lb, you pay the shipping.

Anyone interested? Please email me at purchasing@ejartglass.com

You mean some one would really put $4 worth of glass into a 1/2 ounce bead?
    Sounds pretty crazy to me!

    In a word, yes.
If you're preparing sets for a designer who will buy anything you make with Streaky Pink because it's part of their spring line, it would be worth your while to invest $30 to earn several hundred dollars in sales, and to keep your client happy. As a group we have become so used to the cheap nature of glass we forget other artisans actually have to invest money in their materials. Imagine being a goldsmith....

If what you're selling is the color (seems like selling yourself short)- but, there's more than one way to get there, if that's where you want to be.

To me this smacks of the madness of crowds or worse.
island Art glass had some of this up on ebay last week- $17 for a half pound, double what he had it for a couple of months ago. i didn't buy it because i thought the price was too high.
I'll bet he still has some, for those willing to pay double what frantz was charging, double what he was charging 2 months ago. (half what you are asking)

maybe someone could make that back..maybe. This is not gold we are talking about. that is a commodity traded on the world market with a pretty well established value (albeit fluctuating). With gold, if someone doesn't like your work, the minimum prices is set by weight on the world market.

Anyone want to offer me $8/ pound for my garbage beads (I'm including in this the broken ones, the plant stakes, the frit and rubble)?

Just a little bit of humor - when streaky pink came out, I was placing an order at Frantz. I don't remember who waited on me, but she didn't think much of it and discouraged me from buying it. I admit I still don't see its appeal.

In my humble opinion there are few of us "prepairing sets for a designer". Mosty of us do this as a hobby or to make a little money for glass and supplies. If you have so many designers squawking for your beads then why don't you make them. Stop trying to teach other folks that they will no be able to create anything good unless they have this or that latest color. I am willing to bet that the top bead artists use the normal everyday colors because they will be able to get them year after year. We all need to slow down and accept that money is not what is important here. Selling glass to anyone for outrageous prices is nothing more than profitering.

Hi Kurt and all, I just wanted to point out not to forget, that the core bead does not always have to use solid the desired color of the finish!! This is always particulary true in the boro beads.

For several reasons: first and foremost, it's literally "burried" and basicallly wasted hidden deep in the core. Secondly, you may find a benefit to a transparent crystal core, because it helps keep light (luminessence) as a factor in the 'depth' of the color. An example is Bullseye <font color="purple">Gold Purple [/color]. It's opaque, and some batches are darker then others. If you just smear it on the surface, it is the most beautiful purple in the world that day! It's colors would be greatly understated if you used it as a straight solid application.

Play around with your opaques, and even some of your denser dark transparents. By varying your thicknesses, you can attain several shades of the same color, simply, nicely and creatively!

Then, last but not least, is the cost factor. Why waste what can't be seen? A little CAN go a long long way! Sometimes it's a pain in the arse to switch core colors and such, but you'd be pleasantly surprised in the benfits.

When I'm feeling particularly ecconomical I use clear or white as the base of all my beads. Sometimes, I just don't care.

Using the clear OR white WILL affect your end color that you overlay. Play with different beads, and you will see how indeed, it does.

The hassle of then later coating the base bead, gets when you have to go the the near mandrel area's. It's a little tedious to coat there and retain or rebuild a nice 'pucker' and not let a opal color bleed out. For this reason, I think a clear is better unless you are looking for the colored back to affect the canvas.

It remains personal preferences, but it is still a way to be more frugal with the more expensive colors or one you have little of and need to stretch it out.

I'm not sure about using this trick with BE as well, since I use it for fusing all the time, but not as much for beadmaking, but with Moretti, many of the expensive colors like Rubino (especially) can be thoroughly mixed with clear or white to "expand their volume," without losing much of the intensity or quality of the original color. A little Rubino can go a long long way this way, and you don't have to worry about covering up the ends then...

Obviously, the opaque pinks wouldn't act in quite the same way, but mixing them with a bit of clear might be an interesting experiment to try. Or white--you'd usually just end up with a paler shade. I've mixed EDP #254 with all kinds of other colors and gotten all sorts of interesting variations which end up being "cheaper," but still retain the uniquely special qualities of EDP!
