Default Effetre Streaky Pink for sale

    Hi there, all.

I don't get out much because of my two jobs but I have finally figured out that the Effetre odd batch of pink known as "Streaky Pink" is in high demand and short supply. I have three pounds of it that I'm not using and would like to change into cash so I can buy some things I DO need. I understand that folks are bidding up to $40 per 1/4lb on Ebay, with the average closing price being about $35 per 1/4lb. I'd like to try to sell mine for $30 per 1/4lb, you pay the shipping.

Anyone interested? Please email me at purchasing@ejartglass.com

You mean some one would really put $4 worth of glass into a 1/2 ounce bead?
    Sounds pretty crazy to me!

    In a word, yes.
If you're preparing sets for a designer who will buy anything you make with Streaky Pink because it's part of their spring line, it would be worth your while to invest $30 to earn several hundred dollars in sales, and to keep your client happy. As a group we have become so used to the cheap nature of glass we forget other artisans actually have to invest money in their materials. Imagine being a goldsmith....

If what you're selling is the color (seems like selling yourself short)- but, there's more than one way to get there, if that's where you want to be.

To me this smacks of the madness of crowds or worse.
island Art glass had some of this up on ebay last week- $17 for a half pound, double what he had it for a couple of months ago. i didn't buy it because i thought the price was too high.
I'll bet he still has some, for those willing to pay double what frantz was charging, double what he was charging 2 months ago. (half what you are asking)

maybe someone could make that back..maybe. This is not gold we are talking about. that is a commodity traded on the world market with a pretty well established value (albeit fluctuating). With gold, if someone doesn't like your work, the minimum prices is set by weight on the world market.

Anyone want to offer me $8/ pound for my garbage beads (I'm including in this the broken ones, the plant stakes, the frit and rubble)?

Just a little bit of humor - when streaky pink came out, I was placing an order at Frantz. I don't remember who waited on me, but she didn't think much of it and discouraged me from buying it. I admit I still don't see its appeal.

In my humble opinion there are few of us "prepairing sets for a designer". Mosty of us do this as a hobby or to make a little money for glass and supplies. If you have so many designers squawking for your beads then why don't you make them. Stop trying to teach other folks that they will no be able to create anything good unless they have this or that latest color. I am willing to bet that the top bead artists use the normal everyday colors because they will be able to get them year after year. We all need to slow down and accept that money is not what is important here. Selling glass to anyone for outrageous prices is nothing more than profitering.

Wow! I am sorry at the attitude you got here. I think streaky pink is too pricey too, but I just won't buy it. Again...sorry

What is "streaky pink" anyway?? Is it that "odd lot coralito" that we discussed on the forum back in April when Frantz's group was in Murano??

Not to say what is "right or wrong" on selling/pricing, but I've seen much of pricing is determined by 'supply and demand'. If something is scarce, and it is know or common knowledge, then, that raises the "value".

Odd lots are a blessing and a curse- 1) that they are gorgeous colors (sometimes), 2) they present 'mysteries' due to their undetermined charateristics, and 3) that we get hooked on the great color and then have to pay the price for it if we still want it.

    Ofilia,
I think the "coralito" is one of the odd lot corals available before the gathering (I take it from the way Mike doled it out rod by rod, it's all gone).

The streaky pink is an odd lot based on the pale opaque pink. Several people had it a month or 2 back (it was one of the $13/lb colos). A light op. pink with a core of clear/ white. basically you get a watered down pale pink- almost (to my eye anyway), indistinguishable from white.

my apologies if my remark was rude. I was reacting to Beth's implying it's wrong to question the price of materials, or to question paying 5 times over what Frantz charged for it. this is not gold. Not all colors...in fact, no other colors (including intense black) cost $60/ lb. We have to base out judgements on what to pay for materials on our market, not a goldsmith's market. This price is out of line with our market...even for the same glass from any of a number of vendors.

Ofilia, I think it's a batch that Mike picked up more than a year ago. It was supposed to be dark pink but too much rubino was added. It's a "mistake batch" rather than a "new color," so when it's gone, it's gone.

The clothing designers have gone pink-crazy this year (go look in any women's clothing store), so it's not surprising that people want accessories in pink. Given that pink is one of the weak spots in the Moretti palette, I can understand that people would be willing to pay a higher price for a good strong pink.

The odd lot corals are something else again.
