    Default Graphite mold/form?

Now that our forum is a bit more invigorated, I thought someone besides me might have done the legwork on this question. I would like to find a source who will make me a graphite mold. Basically I have a shape in mind, that I can draw, or make of polymer clay or something like that, and I would like it in a piece of graphite. In my head it is like the Weaver Industries interchangeable graphite molds. Does anyone know of a source for a single custom mold of this type? At the Gathering, presenter Donald Friedlich had things along this line, and commented on how messy graphite is to work with, so I know someone out there is doing it! Jeri

Gee-whiz --- that is a tough one. I took a class with Emilio Santini and he talked about doing that. You might want to contact him. Don't know if he does custom work but he may be able to tell you how to do it. I'd also try Craig Milliron. Didn't he used to do a lot of that kind of thing? If he doesn't still do it, he may have a contact.

Good luck, Jeri. I'll be real interested to see where this leads you. . . and what you end up creating!

    Yes Craig.
I would think you two could get together and create the Jeri tool!

Jeri.... weaver does indeed make one off custom molds... I have worked with them ALOT and they use what is called fine grain graphite which is not very messy at all.... of course if you rub you fingers on it they will get slightly black but I have had no issues with any of their tools..... I can imagine that if you make your shape out of polymer they can make it out of Graphite.... it isn't their primary business which is making graphite for other large industral needs.... for those who don't know them.... http://www.weaverglassart.com/glassart.html... phone number is 717-366-7507... ask for Jerred.... I love the fact they are a family owned and operated company. they do all of their work right in Lancaster Co, PA.... let Jerred know I told you to call that way he knows how you found him... they will be fantastic to work with I know for sure....
